Hier op ons kleuterstadium loop Ma eerder met ‘n waslappie rond. Dis nou om die vuil gesiggie en handjies gereeld af te vee. Vir die wat bietjie verkouerig is, gebruik Ma ‘n sakdoek of ‘n sneesdoekie en as daar nie iets naby is nie, sommer ‘n stukkie toiletpapier. Soms word die waslappie ook ingespan as Sussie haar knieë nerfaf val en dan bring ons ‘n klein lappie, wat ons pleisters noem, om die eina gesond te maak.
Wanneer Sus beholpe met ‘n skêr kan werk, bedel sy al Ma se ou lappe om vir haar pop klere te maak. ‘n Vierkantige stuk lap, twee gate vir moue en ‘n effense uitholling vir ‘n nek en siedaar, jou pop lyk tog alte fraai. Herinneringe van my popspeeldae laat my skoon nostalgies!
Sussie is nou uiteindelik ‘n tiener, en lappe speel nog altyd ‘n belangrike rol. Veral sakdoeke wanneer haar liefdeslewe nie uitwerk soos dit moet nie. Klerekoop met haar eindig die meeste van die tyd in ‘n oorlog. Hoeveel bloese/rokke/broeke/rompe kan ‘n mens nou op ‘n besige Saterdagoggend aanpas en dan boonop besluit nie een is goedgenoeg nie? Ek het nie meisiekinders grootgemaak nie, maar ek sien heelwat ma’s wat op hulle tande kners as dit by klerekoop vir Sussie kom.
Jy kan verseker wees dat met haar kombuistee sal sy ‘n hele paar vadoeke, tafeldoeke, servette, handdoeke en oondlappe ontvang. Dis troudag en gepaard daarmee speel lappe ‘n baie groot rol. Dis Sus se trourok, die strooimeisies se uitrustings, die tafeldoeke en versierings, die ma en skoonma se rokke, Sus se “going-away”-rok en wittebroodsnagkleertjies (gewoonlik nie veel lappe nie) en ‘n paar sakdoeke vir die vroue wat maar altyd ‘n traan of twee wegpik met ‘n huwelikseremonie.
Na die wittebrood verby is, moet Sus vinnig die mooi lappe bêre en dit verruil vir ‘n vadoek, stoflap en voorskoot. Of sy dit nouself doen of dit aankoop vir iemand om dit namens haar te doen, maar hierdie drie lappe is deel van haar nuwe rol. (Ek wonder waar staan dit geskryf!?!)
Kort voor lank kry die ouers ‘n opgewonde oproep om te sê dat Sus nou ook ‘n ma gaan word. Wat doen ons nuwe oumas? Ons begin kyk na doeke, kombersies, handdoeke en waslappies. Hoekom? Want ons weet voor ons siel ‘n vrou moet maar altyd ‘n lap by haar dra!
